is an explorative design practice questioning frameworks for place making. curious for new roots and narratives; weaving imagination and reality into moments of encounters – beyond the built environment.

encounters emerged from the intellectual journey of David Menzi's Master Thesis in Architecture at ETH Zürich in 2022, encounters is a practice in process. Stemming from the Latin word "incontra" (combining "in" and "contrā" for "against"), encounters embodies the essence of engaging with and being challenged by our surroundings. By embracing discomfort when facing challenges, the practice explores new ways to understand space and time, redefining traditional ideas. At encounters, we strive to interrogate disciplinary boundaries, seeking innovative approaches to design and exploration as a platform of collaboration for the many.

Our endeavour deals with issues that range from an object to territorial questions in space and time. We do not see design
as a finished product but as a process that is oriented towards the current conditions, dynamic relationships and state of our environment. We are always looking to foster dialogue and create possiblities of collaboration.
